Children Incorporated + Communities In Schools of Richmond have enjoyed a mutually valued partnership since the 2005-2006 fiscal/school year. Children Inc. first affiliation was at Swansboro Elementary School, and now are currently affiliated with 10 RPS schools in Southside. Through this partnership CIS site coordinators serve as volunteer coordinators for Children Incorporated’s programs.
Over the years, Children Incorporated has provided monthly financial assistance toward the needs of the students enrolled on our sponsorship program. They have awarded grants in response to site coordinators’ proposals for additional support, ranging from school gardens to disaster relief after house fires. Children Incorporated has facilitated special events, such as hosting back-to-school shopping trips at Target in conjunction with CIS RVA and the YMCA’s Bright Beginnings, outings to Saxon Shoes for students to be fitted for and to receive a new pair of shoes, and an epic Vision Clinic in conjunction with CIS RVA, RPS, and OneSight (the charitable foundation of EisslorLuxottica Inc., owners of LensCrafters, Pearle Vision, and more) for students to receive any eye exam and eyeglasses in one day.
“Children Incorporated, celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, provides resources for vulnerable children and youth. Our donors may provide occasional contributions for special projects, or they may choose to sponsor students’ basic/health and educational needs. These sponsors may also choose to become ‘distance mentors’ through supervised correspondence — becoming another caring adult in the life of a child. Thus, our organization’s mission meshes beautifully with the mission of Communities In Schools.” -Reneé Kube, Children Incorporated | Director U.S. Programs
